- When he heard the national anthem of his country, the winner of the  gold medal had his heart in his mouth !    ( =  He felt very emotional, and had tears welling up in his eyes …)

- I can’t prove it ! You’ll have to take my word for/on it !  (= to believe me without further information or proof …)

- Her lecture covered the waterfront ! ( it was very complete and well informed) At he end, I knew everything about the topic !

- « Please, pay a visit to our house every time you’re in town ! » (= come and visit us !!! Beware …. no money is given for the occasion …; it’s the same problem for « you have to pay attention ! » = to be very careful !)

- His paintings aren’t worth a red cent ! ( = they’re not worth anything at all ! They have no value !)
